100-Year-Old Theatre Turned into a Magnificent Bookstore
In Barrio Norte, a city located in Buenos Aires, sits a sublime retreat for readers called El Ateneo Grand Splendid. This library was built from the building of the Grand Splendid Theater, a theater of 100 years old (1919) which was imagined by architects Peró & Torres Armengol. Before being THE library hosting more than one million visitors per year, this theater was a converted in a cinema first. It’s in 2000 that Argentinian architect Fernando Manzone was commissioned to convert it into a library : he kept the scene, the red curtains, the balconies and the amazing details. In 2008, El Ateneo Grand Splendid was named the most beautiful library in the world by The Guardian.
